And the sun also rises....

During dinner conversation the other night, we opened the question with "I wonder why...." to begin explaining Z's kindergarten project concept. Children are encouraged to complete the sentence of "I wonder why...." and begin the introduction to the scientific method by asking the question, determining where one might get answers, and then reporting out on the findings and posing another question that may have come up during this "research"

Zofia was full of questions (I won't reveal the one she chose for her project just yet) including questions like "I wonder why Aaron is so silly".

The following dialogue though really made us laugh

Z: I wonder why the sun sets at night and rises in the morning

Me: This was actually a very deep question in my opinion. I was trying to put thoughts together on this because we all know that it happens but do we know "why"? In nanoseconds my mind sped to the grand design of the universe that is so unknown like moons/tides and the why-ness of it all to the more mundane of everything needing a chance to sleep (amen!). Why! That one word stumped me. Why! uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....just because? Nah, can't do the cop out answer on this one. Man, what a philosophical question and instantly I wonder how do you scientifically prove or disprove this to a child.  Geez, Why! That one word.  (I must divulge that in my baby book it is written that my first words were "why" and "how come". While I don't believe those were truly my first words, those were probably the words I repeated most often enough to my parents that it far outweighed the "mama" and "dada" fledgling speech). I believe all I was able to say was "Well...."

Then my son Aaron chimed in....

A: Because it wants to

Very profound Aaron, and very profane
